Green Light Driving Academy is authorized by the Texas Department of Public Safety  to administer the official DPS  Road Test (Skills Test). Adult students (age 25 & older)  are encouraged to test at any of our testing sites across the DFW area. Completing the authorized DPS Road Test (Skills Test) with GLDA, will allow young adults the flexibility of testing after normal business hours & on weekends.

AM I ELIGIBLE TO TAKE THE DPS ROAD TEST?


Adult requirements for taking the DPS Road Test:

  1. possess a valid and non-expired learner license (learner's permit) (restricted driver's license).  This is not the RECEIPT from the DPS, but the permit that has your picture on it.
  2. completed the  MANDATORY 1 HOUR “Impact Texas Young Drivers” (ITYD) online video course. (ORIGINAL completion certificate required).  


Once requirements have been met,  adults can take the DPS Road Test at GLDA .  Upon successful completion of the DPS Road Test, GLDA staff will provide the required documentation to  take to a Texas Dept. of Public Safety Office to obtain an unrestricted Class C driver license. 


GLDA cannot issue the actual drivers license.


Document Requirement

These documents are REQUIRED by the Texas D.P.S. for testing purposes. It is  your responsibility to ensure that the documents listed below are provided when arriving for the test.  If ANY of these documents are missing, the student CANNOT be allowed to take the test & must reschedule. 

A $35 rescheduling fee may apply.

ORIGINAL completion certificate for the "Impact Texas Young Drivers" (ITYD) online video course.  The certificate is available for printing after completing the video course online and cannot be printed at the Green Light Driving Academy office. More information regarding the ITYD course and a link to the course is provided below. Please Note:  The ITYD video course must be dated within 90 days of the date of the test.  PLEASE SEE MORE INFORMATION & LINK TO VIDEO BELOW.


The young adult student will take the DPS Road Test in a GLDA car.


IMPACT TEXAS YOUNG DRIVERS (ITYD)

 Impact Texas Young Drivers (ITYD) was developed by the Department of Public Safety with the goal of saving lives through awareness and education. ITYD is a 1  hour informational video that is a prerequisite to the drive skills examination being administered by GLDA.  


The ITYD course must be viewed within 90 days of taking the driving test.


Upon completion of the ITYD course the student will receive a certificate of completion that must be presented prior to administering the drive skills examination.

 DPS Road Test (Skills Test) - Adults - $120.00

  

There will be an $70 fee for:

  1. Retesting after unsuccessful attempt


There will be a $50 fee for:

  1. Rescheduling due to failure to arrive at designated time (at least 30 minutes prior to scheduled time) or
  2. Cancelling or rescheduling test less than 48 hrs prior to scheduled test


THERE ARE NO REFUNDS FOR DPS ROAD TEST FEES.


Forms of payment accepted:

  1. Credit/Debit Card (MasterCard, Visa or Discover) 
  2. Cash (no checks)


PLEASE NOTE: 

  • All proper documentation MUST be presented at the time of check-in & the student's car MUST pass inspection. If unable to meet ONE or BOTH of these requirements, the test must rescheduled. 

                $40 rescheduling fee may apply

  • Test rescheduling REQUIRES at least 48 hours notice before the test date and time (excluding Sundays)

                $40 rescheduling fee will apply

  • If the student does not show up for their lesson or test

               $50 rescheduling fee will apply

  • Payment must be received  to confirm date & time for the DPS Road Test .

 Have you completed behind-the-wheel instruction through private lessons &  feel that you need more practice before taking the DPS Road Test?  


Have you already tested at a DPS office & were unsuccessful?


GLDA offers several DPS Road Test Prep-packages that include: a test prep lesson & overview of the DPS road test.


All lessons and the DPS Road Test will be done in a GLDA vehicle.


Package Options:


  1. Pre-test Prep Lesson & DPS Road Test - $200
  2. 3 lessons (2 overview; 1 pre-test prep lesson & DPS Road Test = $345
  3. 7 hours (6 overview  and Pre-Test Prep lesson) + DPS Road Test = $595
  4. any additional overview lesson outside of these packages = $75 each additional hour
