Authorized DPS TESTING - YOUNG ADULT (AGES 18-24)

AGES 18-24

Green Light Driving Academy is authorized by the Texas Department of Public Safety  to administer the official DPS  Road Test (Skills Test). Adult students (age 18-24) that have completed a Texas approved young adult driver education course are encouraged to test at any of our testing sites across the DFW area. Completing the authorized DPS Road Test (Skills Test) with GLDA, will allow young adults the flexibility of testing after normal business hours & on weekends.

A Couple Items...


  1. Skip the DPS - GLDA allow GLDA to submit the DPS docs. - $25 fee applies. 
  2. GLDA is closed on Sunday.
  3. Special scheduling may be available for an additional fee. Inquire when scheduling.

  6. The  ITTD video course certificate must be dated AFTER completion of the drivers ed course date.

AM I ELIGIBLE TO TAKE THE AUTHORIZED DPS ROAD TEST?


Young Adult requirements for taking the authorized DPS Road Test:

  1. complete the 6-hour adult driver education course
  2. possess a valid and non-expired learner license (learner's permit) (restricted driver's license).  This is not the RECEIPT from the DPS, but the permit that has your picture on it.
  3. completed the  MANDATORY 1 HOUR “Impact Texas Adult Drivers” (ITAD) online video course. (ORIGINAL completion certificate required).  


Once requirements have been met,  young adults can take the authorized DPS Road Test at GLDA .  Upon successful completion of the authorized DPS Road Test, GLDA staff will provide the required documentation to  take to a Texas Dept. of Public Safety Office to obtain an unrestricted Class C driver license. 


GLDA cannot issue the actual drivers license.


Document Requirement

These documents are REQUIRED by the Texas D.P.S. for testing purposes. It is  your responsibility to ensure that the documents listed below are provided when arriving for the test.  If ANY of these documents are missing, the student CANNOT be allowed to take the test & must reschedule. 

A $50 rescheduling fee will apply.

  2. Certificate from 6-hour Driver Education Course - Certificate form ADE-1317
  3. ORIGINAL completion certificate for the "Impact Texas Adult Drivers" (ITAD) online video course.  The certificate is available for printing after completing the video course online and cannot be printed at the Green Light Driving Academy office. More information regarding the ITAD course and a link to the course is provided below. Please Note:  The ITAD video course must be dated within 90 days of the date of the test.  PLEASE SEE MORE INFORMATION & LINK TO VIDEO BELOW.


The young adult student will take the DPS Road Test in a GLDA car.

IMPACT TEXAS ADULT DRIVERS (ITAD)

 Impact Texas Adult Drivers (ITAD) was developed by the Department of Public Safety with the goal of saving lives through awareness and education. ITAD is a 1  hour informational video that is a prerequisite to the drive skills examination being administered by GLDA.  


The ITAD course must be viewed within 90 days of taking the authorized driving test.


Upon completion of the ITAD course the student will receive a certificate of completion that must be presented prior to administering the drive skills examination.

WHAT IS THE COST OF THE authorized DPS ROAD TEST AT GLDA?

 COST:

  • $120 - Authorized DPS Road Test (Skills Test) - Young Adults
  • $25-  (document submission via DPS Portal)
  • $50 (if doc. submission is purchased after initial scheduling) 


GLDA will charge an additional $50 fee for:

  1. Retesting after unsuccessful attempt
  2. Failure to provide the required documents on day of test (DOCUMENT CHECKLIST)
  3. Retesting due to vehicle inspection failure (including but limited to improper registration & license plate issues)
  4. Rescheduling due to failure to arrive at designated time (at least 20 minutes prior to scheduled time)
  5. Cancelling or rescheduling test less than 48 hrs prior to scheduled test 
  6. Failure to attend for scheduled appointment time

All lessons will be done in a GLDA vehicle.

  2. Pre-Test Preparation lesson + Authorized DPS Road Test = $220.00
  3. 2 hours (1 hour regular/review lesson & Pre-Test Preparation lesson) +Authorized DPS Road Test = $295.00
  4. 3 hours (2 hour regular/review lessons & Pre-Test Preparation lesson) +Authorized DPS Road Test = $370.00
  5. 4 hours (3 hour regular/review lessons & Pre-Test Preparation lesson) + Authorized DPS Road Test = $455.00
  6. 7 hours (6 regular/review lessons & Pre-Test Preparation lesson) + Authorized DPS Road Test = $670.00

  • any additional regular/review lessons outside of these packages = $100 per hour for each additional hour
